A dive into the history of the Cannolo

From Cicero to contemporary times, the Sicilian Cannolo has fascinated with its history steeped in legends and traditions.
One theory has it that it was born in a convent in Palermo, turning a nuns’ joke into a timeless delicacy.

Gianduia: from a difficulty to a delicious cream that has delighted the world

The chocolate and hazelnut mixture known as ‘Gianduia’ has an equally rich history.
Created by Turin chocolatiers in the 19th century, this delicacy was a creative response to the cocoa shortage during the Napoleonic blockade.

In response, Piedmontese chocolatiers came up with the idea of mixing roasted and finely ground hazelnuts from the Langhe with cocoa.
Its introduction onto the market during the Carnival of 1865 marked the beginning of an era of sumptuous gluttony.
