Description

To enrich your tables and celebrate Easter according to Italian tradition, discover the Easter Colomba : a typical cake that involves a long leavening process
which is somewhat reminiscent of Christmas panettone and which is common to all Italian regions from north to south.
The colomba (dove) is a symbol of peace and springtime, which is why it was chosen many years ago as the shape for a cake to represent the beautiful season and the religious holiday of Easter.

Discover in our online shop Bottega Balocco’s Traditional Colomba, Balocco’s ‘high-end’ line: soft, with its buttery fragrance,
orange peel and almonds. And on the outside the crispy icing.
It will be perfect to round off your festive lunches and also as a gift for gluttonous friends and relatives.

The origins of the Easter dove

The origin of this Easter cake is linked to many legends.
One such legend has it that in the first half of the 6th century, during the war in Pavia, King Alboin was offered a dove-shaped cake by an old merchant as a sign of peace.
And that is the past. But let us come to the present day.
The most realistic and recent history sees a well-known Milanese confectionery company in the early 20th century invent a cake similar to panettone,
so even Easter had its own long-rising cake.
Soft, with candied fruit in the dough like panettone, but with a crunchy coating of icing and almonds.

Do you like candied fruit? Or do you prefer sweets without candied fruit? Bottega Balocco has Colombe without candied fruit in store for you, also with chocolate drops.
